Ihr Glockenturm ruht \u00fcber der Altstadt und bietet Teilnehmenden einer Turmf\u00fchrung einen weiten Blick \u00fcber die Stadt, das Alte Land und die Elbe. Jahrhundert errichtet. Wohl auch aus dieser Zeit stammt der gewaltige achteckige Vierungsturm, w\u00e4hrend die Kirche keinen Westturm erhielt. Vorg\u00e4ngerbauten der alten Ratskapelle k\u00f6nnen bis in die Zeit um 1000 zur\u00fcckreichen.<br \/>Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde der Altarraum um Nebenr\u00e4ume erweitert, 1604 das Brauthaus angebaut. Im 17. Jahrhundert erhielt die Ostfassade eine neue dreigiebelige Front.<br \/>St. Cosmae brannte 1659 aus und erhielt eine neue, in Hamburg angefertigte, Ausstattung. Aus der Zeit davor stammen der St. Gertruden-Altar (um 1500), der aus der 1834 abgebrochenen Kirche St. Nicolai \u00fcbernommen wurde, ein Kreuzigungsrelief (um 1580) und ein Kronleuchter. 1682-84 erhielt die Kirche ihren eindrucksvollen Turmhelm, der heute ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist. <br \/>Bemerkenswert von der Ausstattung des 17. Jahrhunderts sind der Hauptaltar von Christian Precht (1677), Kanzel, Taufe und insbesondere die schmiedeeisernen Gitter an der Taufkapelle. Die Kirche wurde 1963-66 und insbesondere 1985-91 umfassend saniert. Dabei wurde auch ein Gro\u00dfteil des Au\u00dfenmauerwerks erneuert.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div><strong>Tipp:<\/strong> Wer einmal durch den Fachwerkwald des Cosmae-Turms steigen m\u00f6chte, vorbei an Die Qualit\u00e4t der Orgel sprach sich bald herum, von 1675 bis 1702 war der Barockkomponist\u00a0Vincent L\u00fcbeck\u00a0erster Organist an der neuen St.-Cosmae-Orgel.<br \/>Noch heute gilt die Orgel als eines der bedeutendsten Orgelwerke aus dem 17.
