The "Obstroute" – Fruit route
Apples, cherries, pears and more
The Altes Land is the nation’s fruit paradise. The largest interconnected orchard in Northern Europe with its picturesque half-timbered houses can best be discovered by bike.
Apple and cherry trees, orchards with thatched-roof farmhouses and shops characterise the “Obstroute”, framed by the rivers Schwinge and Este. A visit to Stade and Buxtehude also offers the opportunity to savour the historic flair of the historic towns.

Through the region on the Elbe cycle touring bus
No more wind in your sails? With the Elbe cycle touring bus, you can give yourself and your legs a break and let yourself drift along the route in comfort. The Elbe cycle touring bus transports your bikes safely on the trailer and you comfortably inside the bus.
Route
Stade is the starting and finishing point for the circular route through the Altes Land. From the tourist information office at the harbour, you start your cycle tour past the Stadthafen harbour and follow the signs straight ahead, first along the banks of the Holzhafen harbour and then along the railway line towards Agathenburg.
Over 37 kilometres long, the “Obstroute” leads from Stade via Agathenburg, Horneburg, Guderhandviertel and Steinkirchen right through the Altes Land to the banks of the Elbe. Along the river Elbe via Twielenfleth and Bassenfleth and later along the Schwinge dyke, the route leads back to Stade. Along the way, several fruit farms and restaurants offer a multitude of places to stop for refreshments.
If you prefer a more sporty option, you can choose a 41 kilometre longer loop via Jork, Buxtehude, Cranz and back along the Elbe just past Steinkirchen.
