Alter Hafen Association

Together for Stade's maritime heritage

The association Alter Hafen aims to raise public awareness of the historical value of the Hanseatic harbour in the over 1000-year-old seaport of Stade. Part of the realisation of this plan is the reopening of the Hanseatic harbour and making it navigable by means of a bascule bridge. Another aim is to revitalise Stade’s old town harbours in the Lower Elbe Maritime Landscape.

The association’s tourist offers contribute significantly to the revival of the region’s maritime heritage.

Museumsschiff Greundiek im Stader Stadthafen

Activities of the association

The museum ship Greundiek in the Stadthafen harbour is maintained with great dedication by the members of the association. It sets off regularly on trips on the rivers Schwinge and Elbe. In addition, the association runs the information centre on Stade’s harbour history in the wooden crane (Holzkran) at the Fischmarkt and undertakes canal boat trips on the river Burggraben. It supports the town of Stade and the Lower Elbe Maritime Landscape Workgroup in the preservation and development of the region’s maritime heritage.
