A journey through time in the historic town centre followed by a tasting
Those who join the guided city tour “Of Sailors, Hanse Merchants and High-Proof Spirits” embark on a thematic journey through time to the Hanseatic League and commerce in the historic town centre of Stade. As a culinary highlight guests will be able to sample some fine spirits to round off the tour.
To kick off the tour, the Schwedenspeicher museum visualises what merchandise and trade routes looked like in the days of the historic Hanseatic League. From there, the journey continues up the Spiegelberg with a view over the modern Stadthafen harbour with all its historic and modern ships. Why was the wooden harbour crowded with logs in the 1960s as opposed to today, when it is used for maritime entertainment? And what is the story behind the hostage drama of the Count of Harsefeld on the Spiegelberg and in today’s Stadthafen? On a tour of the historic town hall, guests marvel at the ceiling construction and are given a lively explanation of how the town hall was used before the town fire with an open market area on the ground floor. Hökerstraße in front of the town hall is still a commercial and shopping street today.
The final part of the tour takes place at the Fischmarkt against the backdrop of the historic Hansehafen harbour.
The grand finale of the tour takes place at the Fischmarkt against the backdrop of the historic Hansehafen harbour. A delicious tasting will be prepared in the Kramerhus. Spices from the Nordic region, which used to reach Stade by sea at the time of the Hanseatic League, are carefully processed by the Nordik Edelbrennerei into various Akvaviten – two of them, as well as a cocktail, can be sampled by guests at the end of the tour – a true burst of flavour.

Up to 25 guests can take part in each tour. The offer can be booked all year round. Please note that the guided tour cannot be offered on Mondays.
