Stade's paddling area
A paradise for water lovers
Sponsored by:

The Hanseatic city of Stade offers an idyllic paddling paradise that promises water fun for everyone. The harbour Holzhafen not far from the historic town centre is a meeting point for water lovers and offers a variety of maritime experiences. What invites you to relax on land with a water view ensures plenty of action on the water.
By canoe, kayak or SUP
The paddling area in Stade stretches from the harbour Holzhafen in the city centre around the old town to the green meadows of the Schwingetal and spans around 10 kilometres. It leads along the historic ramparts that surround the historic town centre, past the Museum Island out of the city and into the Schwinge meadows. Green pastures, idyllic riverside areas, curious cows and pretty bridges await you there. There are jetties along the way to take a short breather. The turning point is located at the Schwedenschanze.
Access points
Stade’s paddling area offers the opportunity to enter the water at four points. Canoes, kayaks and SUP boards may only be launched there. The shoreline is a habitat for wildlife and may not be used for mooring.
If you are travelling by car, the entry points at the Stadeum and Holzhafen are best suited. There are plenty of public car parks available here.

For the love of nature
A respectful coexistence makes the time on the waters of Stade an experience for everyone and is of great importance for the preservation of this wonderful natural area. Please note the rules for environmentally responsible paddling.
Good to know
The Schwinge may only be navigated with the SUP board or canoe/kayak at a minimum water depth of 130 cm/NN at the measuring point. This value corresponds approximately to the required minimum water depth of 40 cm at the lowest entry points. It is therefore important to check the water level before starting the paddle tour. If the water level is in the “green” range, nothing stands in the way of your water fun.
The funding project was successfully completed:
The measures implemented are part of the Hanseatic city’s water tourism concept. The project is subsidised by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
