"Vogelkieker"
Of bird migration and hatching
This double-decker bus is a birdwatching station on wheels – the Verein zur Förderung von Naturerlebnissen (Association for the Promotion of Nature Experiences) began its programme in 1994 with this unique idea. Since then, thousands of people, including many schoolchildren from all over northern Germany, have travelled through the Kehdinger Land region on the south bank of the Lower Elbe every year in the legendary Vogelkieker.
Through the glass roof of the Vogelkieker bus, wild geese and meadow birds swooping over the bus appear close enough to touch.
If you want to get to know the fascinating birdlife of the Elbe marshes between Stade and Cuxhaven without getting your feet wet or having to endure the wind and weather, don’t miss out on the Vogelkieker tour.
By the way, the wild birds have long since become accustomed to the Vogelkieker bus: barnacle geese and wigeons can often be seen grazing only a few metres away from the observation deck of the bus. In spring, the migratory birds leave and meadow and water birds that breed near the Elbe take their place: colourful ruffs, avocets and even majestic white-tailed eagles are among them, the sight of which makes the hearts of Vogelkieker guests beat faster.
High-quality binoculars, bird identification boards and plenty of information material are available on board the Vogelkieker.

At times of bird migration and hatching, the Vogelkieker is also in season: the bus travels to the nature reserves every year from March to the end of May and from October to the end of November.
