Hiking in and around Stade
Explore the region in hiking boots
The region’s nature is perfect for both casual and extensive hiking tours.
There are many routes through Stade and the surrounding region that will delight young and old alike and can be undertaken on your own. Whether in a nature reserve or close to the city centre, along lakes and rivers or through forests and meadows.
Water – Forest – Meadow
You don’t have to travel far to immerse yourself in nature. Right in the centre of Stade there are places and paths that are suitable for a leisurely hike. The Water-Forest-Meadow route spans 9 kilometres between the most beautiful places and most popular nature trails in the Hanseatic city. Along the river Burggraben, the old ramparts, the Schwarzer Berg and the Schwingetal, it leads right through Stade leading you past the most beautiful scenery the city has to offer. This map shows you exactly where the route takes you.
Stade playground circuit
A hike can be quite lengthy, especially for children. The Stade playground circuit offers more fun and variety: starting at the tourist information office at the harbour, there are 6 playgrounds for young and old along a 7-kilometre route. This walk offers particularly beautiful landscapes to enjoy and plenty of variety for children. The following map shows you which paths to follow.
Our favourite spots in the countryside
For hikers who prefer to explore the area without a map, our favourite places offer a wide selection of enchanting destinations. Our colleagues present their own favourite spots in nature both in and beyond Stade. Whether by the water, in a nature reserve, in the Schwingetal or in the middle of the woods. Everyone will find something here to suit their taste.
Hiking with the German Alpine Club – Stade branch
On the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month, members of the Stade branch of the German Alpine Club (DAV) go hiking throughout the Elbe-Weser triangle, the Lüneburg Heath and the Hamburg area. They encounter wildlife, interesting industrial monuments and much more, and there are always a few knowledgeable members who can share interesting facts about what they see. The hikes are between 10 and 14 km or 18 and 24 km long and are prepared and led by a member of the group. A stop for refreshments afterwards is usually possible and well attended.
Anyone interested is welcome to join. Further information can be found on the club’s website.
