It’s always a pleasure to go shopping in Stade’s historic town centre with its charming little shops tucked away in narrow winding streets. With shops open on a relaxing Sunday, what better excuse is there to plan your next trip to Stade?
Back in the early 1970s, the first streets in Stade were converted into pedestrian zones. Today, almost the entire historic town centre of Stade is car-free and the shopping experience has become even more charming.

Stade on the move
While the Craft Beer & Gourmet Festival at Stade’s Stadthafen harbour is all about culinary delights and creative beer creations, the ‘Stade in motion’ action day will take place in the streets of the historic town centre on Sunday, 4 May. From noon to 6 pm, the day will revolve around mobility and sports. Various exhibitors invite guests to try new things and ask questions. The sounds of live music fill the streets of the town.
At the ‘Am Sande’ square, visitors to the car show can check out the latest models and talk shop with representatives from Stade’s car dealerships. The Ankerplatz square hosts a fun programme for children and a charity cake sale. Only a few steps away on the Pferdemarkt square, the Classic Club Niederelbe showcases a variety of rare and unique vintage cars. Right next door, a stage hosts all kinds of talents: dance, acrobatics, martial arts and much more are demonstrated in a series of short performances. Not far from the Stadthafen harbour, the SUP Club Stade will be introducing itself on its premises. The cosy terraces by the water invite you to take a breather. Yoga enthusiasts can get into the spirit of things by chatting with Stade yogis and taking part in a trial yoga session at Omnia in Poststraße.
The shops in Stade’s historic town centre will be open from noon to 5 pm. At 2 pm, the shopkeepers from Holzstraße will be holding an open-air fashion show in front of their shops. You can meet magician Roberto at various locations in the historic town centre, where street performers will be entertaining visitors with a variety of musical performances. Among other things, the Stade Sofa from Stade aktuell will be set up in the city during the Sunday shopping hours, adding to the convivial atmosphere. Street musicians will be performing at the Fischmarkt, at Bürgermeister-Dabelow-Platz, Holzstraße and Große Schmiedestraße, among other places. The music programme for the ‘Stade in motion’ event is being organised with the support of Stade aktuell.
