Children's programme in the Christmas season

The sparkle in children's eyes...

Christmas time is family time, and that’s why even the youngest family members are in for some exciting activities in the run-up to Christmas. A Christmas workshop, kids’ cinema, stories and theatre, a meeting with Santa Claus himself and much more will make children’s eyes light up with joy.

Museum "Schwedenspeicher"

On all four Advent Sundays, Stade’s museums are once again offering their open workshops, followed by a screening of a kids’ film. From 2 to 4 pm, children are invited to make their own fun and colourful prints using bubble wrap, Coca Cola, CDs or old milk cartons – almost like in Rembrandt’s time, only much more colourful and simpler.

The screening starts at 4.15 pm. The films shown are Scandinavian Christmas movies

The programme in detail:
Sunday, 1 December: 2-4 pm Printing with feathers, threads and colours, 4.15 pm Cinema ‘Tomte Tummetott’ (German)

Sunday, 8 December: 2-4 pm ‘Caustic, yet beautiful – making templates with Coca Cola’, 4.15 pm Cinema ‘Als Michel das Fest für die Armen gab’ (German)

Sunday, 15 December: 2-4 pm Making Christmas ghosts and ghost fairies, 4.15 pm film: ‘Lotta: Ein Weihnachtsbaum muss her’ (German)

Sunday, 22 December: 2-4 pm Etchings in TetraPacks, 4.15 pm film: ‘Pippi und das Weihnachtsfest’ (German)

Children's programme in the historic crane

During the Hafen-Weihnacht Christmas market at the harbour, the festively decorated historic crane offers a varied children’s programme each day.

On Mondays and Thursdays, children can get creative from 1 pm to 6 pm in the wooden crane. There are crafting supplies ready and waiting for them to write letters to the Christkind or Santa Claus. The last opportunity to use the Christmas letterbox is on Thursday, 12 December.

In addition, there are a number of different events taking place: the Christmas workshop in the Schwedenspeicher warehouse on Tuesdays at 3 pm, readings from Christmas picture books by the Stade liest e.V. association on Wednesdays at 4 pm, the magical stamp workshop on Fridays at 3 pm and stories about Father Christmas on the weekends at 4 pm.

Puppet show in December

On the Sundays of Advent, a puppet theatre will be putting a smile on the faces of the little ones visiting the Christmas market. On the puppet theatre stage, Santa Claus, the witch Wackelzahn and the king whose crown has been stolen will be engaging in an amusing altercation.

Christmas market at Pferdemarkt:
Sundays, 1 and 15 December, from 2, 3 and 4 pm.

‘Hafen-Weihnacht’ Christmas market at Fischmarkt:
Sundays, 8 and 22 December, from 2, 3 and 4 pm.

Santa Claus and St. Nicholas

Santa Claus is out and about
On Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 3 pm, Santa Claus wanders through the historic town centre with his big bag of sweets, looking forward to meeting many visitors to the Christmas market, both young and old.

St Nicholas and Christmas elves
On Friday, 6 December, from 3 to 6 pm, St Nicholas and his elf will be making their way through the streets of Stade.

Christmas music for children

The kids from the primary school at the Burggraben will sing the most beautiful children’s Christmas carols at 11 am on Wednesday, 11 December at the Pferdemarkt.

Stades Advent calendar

Stade’s XXL Advent calendar will be on display at the Pferdemarkt. From 1 to 23 December, Santa Claus himself will open the next Advent calendar door every day at 3 pm. All children who can recite a poem, sing a song or stage a short piece for Santa Claus at the event – creativity knows no bounds – will have the chance to win one of two gifts from the Advent calendar, which will be raffled off among participating children aged 3 to 10. To ensure that no child leaves empty-handed, Santa will give a sweet surprise to all children who have not won. The Advent calendar was created by an initiative of the exhibitors.
